Construction and Testing of Packagings

Testing of packagings
Prior to being used for transport almost all packagings (including IBCs) need to be tested according to UN standards:

Important
X, Y, Z are indicating the Packing Group (PG I, PG II, PG III) of the Dangerous Goods for which the packing was tested.
Drop test
(all packagings)
Minimum drop height:
PG I: 1.8 m
PG II: 1.2 m
PG III: 0.8 m
Stacking test
(all packagings except bags/sacks)
Minimum stack height:
PG I-III: 3 m
Leakproofness test
(all single packagings for liquids)
Minimum leakproofness pressure:
PG I: 30 kPa
PG II - III: 20 kPa
Hydraulic pressure test
(all metal, plastic and composite packagings for liquids)
Minimum hydraulic pressure:
PG I: min. 250 kPa
PG II - III: Dependent upon vapor pressure of content
