- Sea voyages are made in variety of weather conditions which are likely to exert a combination of forces upon the ship and its cargo over a prolonged period. Packing and securing of cargo into/onto a CTU must be carried out bearing this fact in mind.
- It should always be assumed that weather conditions may be rough and thus securing methods for land transport will not be appropriate at sea.
- Varying and enduring outside conditions (e.g. temperature) may affect internal conditions in a CTU. If, for example, cargo is liable to damage by condensation, expert advice should be asked for.
