The purpose of the Advisory Committee on Sustainability (ACS) is to provide a forum for the academic program, facility planning, and campus operating interests in sustainability. By increasing awareness of the members strengths in these areas, and identifying areas for further improvement, the campus continues to define itself as a leader in the earth sciences, while employing the principles of environmental stewardship in its own operations.

The CLP Regulation (for 'classification, labeling and packaging') is the basic EU law, which regulates the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures in the European Union (EU) or the (EEA).

The EU CLP Regulation adopts in modified form the legalized Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) (GHS) system of the United Nations (UN). The GHS system (Globally Harmonized System of Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Chemicals), in turn, carries the needs of the globalized world community statement, a single system to classify chemicals, including labels and safety data sheets to establish. Therefore, the terms CLP and GHS (or system) are used interchangeably. The CLP Regulation knows - as opposed to REACH - no thresholds, making even the smallest quantities gültig. CLP Regulation provisions shall apply only from the marketing of the substances or preparations (REACH regulates production)..

Das GHS sieht so genannte Gefahrenklassen (hazard classes) vor, welche die Art der Gefahr beschreiben. GHS umfasst 16 Gefahrenklassen für physikalische Eigenschaften (etwa explosiv oder auf Metalle korrosiv wirkend), zehn für die menschliche Gesundheit (etwa akut toxisch oder karzinogen) und eine für die Umwelt (gewässergefährdend).

HCS Hazard Communication Standard, USA.

Safety Data Sheet.

SDS stands for the safety data sheet (The GHS has dropped the word “material” from material safety data sheet. It will now be called the safety data sheet or SDS) is specifically aimed at use in the workplace. It should provide comprehensive information about the chemical product that allows employers and workers to obtain concise, relevant and accurate information that can be put in perspective with regard to the hazards, uses and risk management of the chemical product in the workplace.

The GHS SDS headings, sequence and content are similar to the ISO, EU and ANSI MSDS/SDS requirements. The SDS should provide a clear description of the data used to identify the hazards. There is a table comparing the content and format of a current MSDS/SDS versus the GHS SDS provided in Appendix A of the OSHA GHS guidance document available at their website www.osha.gov

Please note: The European Union has not regulated the issue "Safety data sheet" within CLP-guidelines, it has regulated it within REACh-guidelines. (regards to content).
